Production monitoring is a specialized on-site inspection that verifies the production status and inventory of raw materials. An inspector examines your factory to check the quantity of raw materials and accessories required for your products before production. Detailed reports are generated for the entire or specific production cycle of your product.
Performing production monitoring helps to hold your factory accountable throughout the entire production process, maintain control and visibility over the production process, detect the possibility of any sub-contracting, identify production delays early, identify poor internal quality control from suppliers, identify poor warehouse or production environments, and confirm if the factory’s declared production capacity is feasible.
Production monitoring that is consistently carried out over a predetermined period, such as weekly, can provide a more accurate timeline and improved quality control.
A typical production monitoring process includes the following checks: availability and planning of raw materials and accessories, production organization and status check, and production process and internal factory review.
The outcome of production monitoring is a detailed inspection report regarding production completion status. The report outlines the findings of the inspection, including photos of any failings and an overall pass/fail for the inspection. However, production monitoring does not control the quality of your products or corrective action plans for improvement. Therefore, we recommend pairing production monitoring with a quality inspection during production using AQL sampling and/or focusing on root cause analysis and corrective actions for improvement.
